Counterfeit toothpaste has been found lining the shelves of various retail discount stores in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland. The 5 oz. tubes labeled as “Colgate” toothpaste has been recalled in these states. Apparently a poisionous chemical, Diethylene Glycol, used as a solvent and in antifreeze was found in the contaminated toothpaste. These tubes were also reported as being labeled as being “Manufactured in South Africa.” Colgate-Palmolive co. stated; however, that it does not import tooth paste from South Africa.
Details about the recall:
- States found with contaminated toothpaste: New Jersey, New York, Pennslyvania and Maryland.
- The recall includes the following Colgate brands: Regular, Gel, Triple and Herbal.
- As of right now, no reported serious illnesses have been reported.
- A total refund will be offered for the recall.
