I thought this post was right on the money.

What better way to show a potential client that you are the one for the job than to show them that you can listen and follow instructions.

He said he was going to delete the messages that didn’t follow the instructions, and I don’t blame him.

When responding to any job posting, you should read it completely and make sure you include all the items requested (or in this case, not include the items as requested). These must be your first steps; you can add more of your standard content once you have the necessities.

Although I’m not always sure I should use their first name (we haven’t really gotten acquainted yet), I would definitely include a salutation using, at the very least, “Mr. Smith”.

Following instructions can make or break one’s chance of landing a job unfortunately. So you’re definitely right in saying that we should listen[in the above case 'read'] instructions and follow simple instructions.
