Get More Traffic to Your Blog with Link Baiting
As odd as the term “link baiting” may sound, it basically refers to a natural way of link building by creating some buzz from content that you’ve placed on your site.
To lure more traffic and backlinks to your blogs, you need to write great and interesting content, submit your content to numerous social bookmarking sites, get people talking about it on forums and even blogging about it.
Here are some tips to help you maximize link baiting as a way to increase your blog traffic:
• Post timely and current content. Your source of content can be current affairs; note that some of the content on Digg are news-related topics.
• Take a controversial viewpoint. If you can stir up some controversial discussion on a certain topic you may also stir up some buzz online and draw more traffic to your blog. This should be done in a responsible manner since slander and the use of profanity is not the way to do it. Simply offer a sound, opposing view point in a professional way.
• Choose some structured and visual content. Interesting and well-written articles do well when it comes to building backlinks. It can also increase traffic because if readers enjoy a certain post, they will likely bookmark your content or sign up for your blog feed to receive news updates from your blog which translates to return visitors.
• Insert some humor and let your personality shine through. Humor seems to warm up your blog visitors. Sites that entertain the visitors and promote the products second are doing well on the internet. Be wise and take some responsibility when using humor…don’t make fun of others or cause hurt feelings. And with certain topics and situations realize that humor is not always appreciated.
• Give something away for free or hold a contest. People love to talk about what they got for free and people will often share the news with their own friends, partners, subscribers, blog visitors, etc. Some good examples on freebies to create some buzz are useful software tools, reports, templates, graphics, free memberships, tangible products, advertising and even money.

Great tips! I especially like the idea of taking a controverial viewpoint. I had never thought of that. It seems that I never want to disagree with my readers but it just might be a great way to create a buzz online and improve traffic to the site. Thanks for the idea. I’ll definitlely be trying that in the future!

Rose,
I know what you mean. I like to be “agreeable”, but we need not be afraid to go against the grain when we have something that needs to be said.
“topranked” You’re welcome. Thanks for stopping in.

Don’t forget a great title. You can have an article that would make great linkbait, but if the title doesn’t do it’s job the links won’t come.

Stephanie,
Good point! I spend quite a bit of time trying to come up with catchy titles particularly for articles that I’m going to submit to directories. You want to entice people to click and read your info.
