How to Write Directly to Your Readers
![]()
For a more powerful and effective approach when writing for your blog or newsletter, write directly to your audience.
Here are a few steps you can take to make sure that what you write influences your readers…
1. Consider who your audience really is. Often this will be obvious but it isn’t always. So make sure you really know your audience well. If you don’t know them, then you won’t be successful with your writing. Consider creating polls and surveys to help you identify their needs and wants. 2. Form a picture in your mind of the perfect reader. Who is your ideal reader? Write directly to them. Have a picture of that person in your mind in detail. Then, picture that person in your mind every time you write. Picture the person reading what you write. This will allow you to write directly to your target audience.
3. Use the type of language and the type of words that your target audience uses. Don’t use big, exclusive words to impress your audience…you’ll only lose their interest. Use simple everyday words and use plenty of descriptive words when possible. Write about the types of things that your audience finds interesting. Also, tell them something that they will consider as valuable information. You should educate them, entertain them, and hopefully do both.
