The Hottest Selling Product for Successful Online Entrepreneurs
It won’t be surprising to any internet marketer that selling information is the hottest
selling item online. But, it’s not so simple as all that…if it were soooo easy…everyone would be doing it, right?
Well, YOU could be selling information products successfully if you were selling the right products and doing it the right way. And that’s why I sat down at my desk today to write these tips… (I’ve also taken the time to include some valuable link resources to help you succeed.)
Here’s how to make sure your information product is the hottest selling item online:
1. Choose a Niche that’s Popular Enough to Sell Well
I know that this point is probably nothing profound or new; however, it’s clearly an important step that may require a little research.
On the other hand, don’t get too hung up on it. Some people can become “scared stiff” in making a choice, resulting in no action at all. Internet marketer, Willie Crawford, revealed that his single most profitable niche (long-term) has actually been the cooking niche. He’s published several cookbooks to sell. *By the way, diyPLR occasionally has some PLR Cooking Guides if you’re interested in the cooking niche.
So, as you see, you basically choose a niche that people are already spending money in and popular enough that sales will trickle in at a consistent basis.
2. Establish Your USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
Take a quick look at your competitors. What could possibly make your information product better? Add some extra bonuses such as a free report, free software, free video or a free membership, etc. Whatever your choice, make sure your info product stands out from your competitors. Give your visitors a good reason to choose your product over your competitor’s product.
3. Create Top Quality Content in your Niche
Don’t you have a favorite author that has drawn you to purchasing more of their books? Creating top quality information products allows you to sell more future products. People learn that they can expect quality information from you and so they’ll be willing to spend more.
To create quality content, research your information well. Make sure your content is written clearly and proofread well. Don’t try to show off with big words. Keep content mostly at grade school reading level. For writing content, consider reading, “Strategies for Increasing Comprehension” (Scroll down the page a bit to read it.) Amazingly enough, it’s good advice for writing to your readers.
4. Create Free Content that Exhibits the Quality of your Information
Don’t make it such a tough decision for your visitors. Your visitors are pondering questions such as, “Should I buy the ebook or not?” “Will it meet my expectations?” “Will the content be helpful for my situation?”
There are several choices to alleviate your visitors’ hesitations. Create a blog or offer a newsletter to share some valuable tips in your niche. You’ll build a trustworthy relationship with your subscribers. Another option is to offer a free chapter or page from your information product so that they can “test the waters” before they buy.
One additional tip it to use bullet points on your salespage to define points of information that will intrigue the interest of your targeted audience. To alleviate all other worries, it’s a great idea to offer a full money-back guarantee if they are not completely satisfied.
5. Create Some Buzz by Offering viral Reports
Word of mouth marketing has been popular in the offline world, but in the online marketing world, viral reports are hot. Although you don’t want to give all your information away for free, you still want to offer valuable content that will draw “bees to the honey” so-to-speak.
As an example: Offer a free report on cooking tips to help sell your cookbook. Let your visitors give away your report to friends or on their own blogs. This is where viral marketing reports begin to pay off.
6. Establish Yourself as an Expert in your Field
Would you buy a car repair guide from a baking expert? Of course, not! You like to find someone who’s knowledgeable about whatever information your are seeking.
This is yet another good reason to create a blog which allows you to display some articles on your niche subject. You’ll be establishing some trustworthiness by showing that you can provide such helpful content.
7. Offer an Affiliate Program for your Product
One of the best ways to get more sales is to share your sales. At first, this might seem contradictory. But, take a closer look at the technique…you’re getting extra exposure for free. You’ll have affiliates helping you sell your product…and these are sales that you might otherwise had failed to generate.
Most marketing gurus depend heavily on their affiliates to generate a large amount of their sales. This method can work for you, but you do need to learn a little bit about managing an affiliate program and how to get affiliates interested in promoting your informational products. *Be sure to grab your copy of “How to Start Your Own Affiliate Program” to learn more.
8. Offer Up-Sells and Down-Sells
Upselling is offering another product to generate extra income from those who are already interested in buying your info product. The upselling technique has been around for a long while. Everyone is familiar with McDonald’s upsell, “Would you like fries with that?”
For those who might be on a tighter budget or simply hesitant to spend more money, consider a downsell. Upselling and downselling can all take place during the checkout process, but it can also take place later in the future.
The best way to generate future sales either way would be to get your customers on your special “customers only list”. If your shopping cart doesn’t automatically add your buying customers to your mailing list, you’ll need to get creative in getting them to sign up on a separate list once they’ve made a purchase from you. One idea is to offer them free updates for life on your product when they sign up for your customers only list.
9. Create a Great Sales Page
Creating a great sales page is a very critical step of your sales process. Some people create high quality info products, but fail to close the sale on their salespage. Your sales copy can make a HUGE difference in the amount of sales you generate.
Taking a basic copywriting course can really help you with this step. *You can find a helpful course here: “Copywriting Sweetie Video Workshop“
10. Learn How to Generate a Lot of Traffic
Of all tips so far, this one has to be the most obvious. The more traffic you generate, the more opportunities to generate sales. Unfortunately this step also seems to be the toughest one for new marketers to conquer.
There are tons of methods for generating more traffic to your salespage. I highly recommend creating a landing page to generate leads. Offer a free report or some sort of gift to entice your visitors to sign up for your mailing list. It’s easier to market to those who know you than those who are clueless as to who you really are. It’s also cheaper than constantly trying to generate brand new leads.
As I said earlier, there are tons of traffic generating methods, but for starting out, I would recommend utilizing article marketing to generate traffic to your landing page. Article marketing will help you gain some backlinks to your site as well as getting free exposure to your products.
Video marketing is also gaining high respect amongst internet marketers because it works so well for generating more leads. You’re allowing internet users to see the “real person” behind the scenes. *To download one of the best free traffic generating ebooks that I’ve received online – click here to grab your copy.
To sum up this week’s blog post, content marketing can ultimately create a full-time income in selling information online. A friend personally sent me this blog post link last week to read, and I thought it would be very fitting to share with my readers here. It’s entitled, “How to make £100,000 from lemons, honey & garlic: Apply these simple content marketing strategies to YOUR business.” I hope it will give you some good “food for thought”…enjoy the read.

Thanks for all the great information, Rhonda. Someone asked me recently if I’ve written my “How to Squidoo” ebook yet. I seem to have developed a reputation as an expert (to some people), but no ebook yet. Guess I really should consider taking some time to put one together. I know that people do pay for good information – I certainly do! Something to think about as I examine the resources you’ve provided here. Thanks again!
Susan
Susan, I’m convinced it’s high time you write that ebook!
I know you would do a wonderful job! I hope you go for it! And don’t forget to let me know when you get it finished so that I can let me readers know.
