What Can I Sell to Become an Internet Marketer?
Too many newcomers to internet marketing are confused as to what internet marketing really is. Ask many what business they are in and they’ll tell you “internet marketing” – but IM is not a business occupation. The term simply means to market on the internet. To be in business online, you have to sell or promote something…otherwise, how would you make any money?
Here’s the 3 basic structures of earning money online…
1. Sell Other People’s Products
One of the coolest things about internet marketing is that you don’t even have to own a product of your own. Many people make a very lucrative living by selling other people’s products. This is known as affiliate marketing. With this method, you don’t have to worry about taking care of customer support, delivering or updating the product. There are many different ways to go about marketing affiliate products, from having your own website where you promote stuff or to simply posting articles that redirect to your affiliate link. On a side note, I highly recommend setting up your own website.
Affiliate products can be physical products, services or informational content such as ebooks. A number of well-known, as well as lesser known companies rely on affiliate sales to broaden their reach. Often affiliate marketers do well when utilizing a content site or blog. For example, you could blog about your favorite hobby such as needlework and include recommendations for yarns, threads, fabrics, etc. This is a great way to get paid to write about your favorite subject but you can choose any topic. As for my recommendations here, choose a profitable niche where people are spending money and not simply targeting freebie seekers.
2. Sell Your Own Products or Services
Other people prefer to create their own products and that’s a great way to make a living, as well. Whether you create physical products or specialize in some service such as web design, they can be sold over the internet. One of the earliest ways for the average person to get into selling physical products over the web was auction sites, particularly eBay. While some people use eBay just to sell off their unwanted items (kind of like a virtual lawn sale), there are others who have built huge businesses through the site.
3. Sell Information
Information products are a wonderful addition to any internet marketer’s portfolio. Digital information products come in many forms to sell such as ebooks, reports, ecourses, training workshops, videos, audio, etc. If you have knowledge on any particular topic and it’s knowledge that others would pay to obtain – you have it made. You can write this information up and easily turn it into a form that the customer can download the minute they pay for it. Check out my site, SellInformationProducts.com for quick details.
For those non-writers among us, there is a whole segment of the IM world that would love to ghostwrite for you for a fee or you could purchase plr content to create your own information products. Another option for non-writers is to record an audio product or make a video. The same information can be shared without having to be a writer or pay a writer.
When it comes to how to market products, whether physical or digital, your own or affiliate, there are almost limitless ways to do so. Some methods cost nothing but time, others cost money but take little time. That usually is the crux of the matter, by the way. You will need to spend either time or money to get your business off the ground. Either way, you must remember that internet marketing is a vehicle to market, not an actual business.
