Toy Trends for 2009 – A Must For New and Used Toy Sellers

new-holiday-toy-guide-for-2009

Looking at trends in the toy industry can be valuable for an eBay seller… it helps to know what kind of inventory to keep an eye out for – and you can bet that the most popular toys this year will likely follow these trends. This is true for new and used toys.

Following are some trends that outline what buyers are paying attention to this year and are useful to keep in mind when shopping for inventory.

1. Eco-Friendly Toys

“Green” is IN… it is everywhere and toys are no exception! Toys that are environmentally friendly are expected to be very popular this year.

2. Budget Friendly

The economy is all the talk – but that doesn’t mean parents aren’t going to be buying toys for their kids this Christmas. Retailers are already gearing up to offer some great prices on their toys this year.

3. Realistic Toys

I think it started with Baby Alive years ago… but it has become a huge trend these past few years and looks like it will continue. These are toys that respond to touch and interact with the child somehow.

4. Classic toys

Many parents are turning to toys that they had when they were young.

5. Movies

There are always a few movies that are released during the year that have a very timely DVD release right before the holidays. Look at what movies did well this year – and keep an eye on the merchandise available for that movie… usually they do well on eBay.

KNOW which toys are selling this holiday – the biggest selling season of the year – with the Holiday Toy Guide.

How to Make Money on Ebay Selling Stuff You Already Have

How to Make Money on Ebay Selling Stuff You Already Have

by Guest Blogger, Suzanne Wells ~ Ebay Selling Coach

Guest blogger, Suzanne Wells ~ Ebay Selling Coach

You probably have hundreds of dollars worth of items lying around your house – and you can sell these things on eBay for cash. You don’t have to buy a kit or buy inventory to make money on eBay. Your initial investment can be zero.

As an eBay coach and consultant, the most common question I am asked is, “What can I sell that I already have?” Read on…

Assess your home room by room. Always look for is anything new in the box, new in the package, or new with a tag. You may have gifts you received that you have never opened (that horrible sweater from your mother in law), items you bought because there was a sale, or clothes that you thought Slim Fast would help you get into. You can sell all of it.

The easiest place to start is in the kitchen. Calphalon and Circulon cookware sells great.  Especially the large pieces like the stock pots and griddles. Pampered Chef, Kitchen Aid, Tupperware, and Wilton cake pans also do well. If you have any vintage Pyrex items those are great. Check your cookbooks. Some of the Weight Watchers, Wilton Cake Decorating, and Southern Living cookbooks are highly collectible and you can make a huge profit on them.

Let’s look around the baby’s room. Have any duplicate shower gifts? If the items are large (like high chairs or strollers), you can list on eBay with local pickup only, or list them on Craigslist so you don’t have to worry about shipping something huge. What about all those baby outfits that your little one never even wore, that still have the tags on them? Sell those items in a lot. New expectant moms are looking for deals on baby clothes. If you received a welcome kit from the hospital, take a look inside. If you aren’t using baby formula and have coupons or samples, you can sell that. Baby stuff is very profitable on eBay.

Next, check the playroom or your kids’ rooms. Electronics, game systems, and PSP, Gameboy, Wii, or Xbox games are great sellers. Batch up the games your kids are burned out on and sell them for cash. Electronic learning toys like Leap Frog, V-Tech, and Fisher Price learning toys do well. Make sure everything works properly before trying to sell it. Clothing and shoes are also great. Expensive shoes such as Nike Shox are great sellers on eBay, even if used.

On to your teenager’s room. Acne products do well on eBay. My daughter tried ProActiv for a while but we stopped using it and had some unopened bottles left. It sold fast and we got back what we paid for it. Fashionable items like character themed bedding and stylish hip clothing from popular stores like Abercrombie, Aeropostale, and the Gap are also good sellers. Sell clothing in lots. It is faster and you can make a better profit.

Look around your bathroom. Partially used bottles of perfume (Lancome, Avon, Mary Kay, Estee Lauder), unopened cosmetics (sell in lots), unused high end hair products such as Redken, Biolage, Aveda, and Nexxus are good sellers.

As you can see, your home is full of potential and this article is only the tip of the iceberg. How to Choose What Products to Sell Online

How to Choose What Products to Sell Online

You’re probably anxious to start selling products online if you’ve realized the full potential opportunity that the internet lends to start earning income right from home.  The toughest question that you may be facing is more than likely, “what am I going to sell?”

In deciding which products you want to sell, you need to take a close look at current marketing trends, the demand of those products and the ease of access. If the products you’re considering can already be found at your local store they will probably not sell successfully online.  The obvious reasons are the quick convenience of local shopping and no shipping fees.  Plus, there is no worries about receiving wrong orders, damaged goods, or getting scammed.  Hard to compete with that, right?

A good choice is to choose products that are NOT currently hot items on the market. This may be a surprising concept, but larger companies will be able to offer these items at much lower prices to the consumer since they will be purchasing large bulks at low wholesale prices.  As you can see, for someone starting a new business online the competition would be extremely tough.  Successful internet sales are usually made from unique items, special orders or harder-to-find items.

Successful online sellers and resellers perform thorough researches into marketing trends. What sold yesterday may now sell well on the internet as it becomes less and less available in the local stores.  A good thorough research will include surveying individual geographical areas to see what is available and what isn’t and choosing their products accordingly.

Collectibles, antiques and knick-knacks usually make popular online stores. Brick-and-mortar antique stores carry what they can easily obtain, while internet antique stores have a much wider selection since they can tap into many more resources.  Internet sellers can also gather of variety of items more quickly than the brick-and-mortar antique stores can.  As for knick-knacks, very few brick-and-mortar stores out there specialize in inventory of knick-knacks, and the world is full of people who want to collect knick-knacks.  And so the internet has become an easy resource of collecting harder-to-find items.

Finally, before making a decision on what products to sell online, keep in mind that just because you or a few of your friends may like a specific item does not mean a many other consumers will share your views. Do a thorough research and perhaps visit some related forums and ask for the opinions and interest of others.  If you cater to consumer trends, lack of availability, specialized products and the old standby of collectibles your internet business should do well.  You will be constantly changing inventory so be prepared keep watching closely all the factors that come into play with consumer purchases.
