Don’t Waste Your Time with Affiliate Marketing Unless You’ve Considered These 3 Things

affiliate-marketingDon’t give up just yet on affiliate marketing!  You’ve probably heard by now some internet marketers complaining about affiliate marketing…they’ve never made a single penny or they’ve worked desperately all year and they’ve made less than $100.  Yes, it’s a pity.  Affiliate marketing takes work just as any business opportunity does.

The very basics of affiliate marketing is simply to choose a profitable niche, create a web page to build your list, and build a trusting relationship with your subscribers.  (In other words, connect with them, offer valuable content and only promote worthy products and services.)  Finally, don’t forget the work of marketing your webpage online.  No traffic = No sales.  *By the way, you can check out some articles on my blog here regarding internet marketing.

Here’s 3 things to consider before beginning your affiliate marketing venture…

Choose Profitable Affiliate Products

One of the toughest decisions for most new affiliate marketers is choosing products to promote.

Normally, they feel that if they don’t have adequate knowledge about the subject they won’t be able to do well with that particular niche. That’s generally not the case, although it does help if a person does have some insight or basic understanding of the industry, but that also depends on what they’re promoting.

Affiliate marketers may cower in fear from choosing profitable niches, but with adequate and thorough research, you can dive into practically any niche you desire.  Private label content is also readily available for a large variety of niches on practically any topic.  You can check out my list of favorite resources at PLRContentShop.com.

Where to Choose Affiliate Products

Clickbank offers thousands of affiliate products, some with commission rates as high as 75%.  ShareaSale, Linkshare and Paydotcom are a few other popular affiliate networks available.  Recently launched is Payspree which offers instant commissions directly to your Paypal account.  In other words, there’s no need to wait a month or so to receive your commissions.  As soon as your visitors purchase, you’ll receive the commission immediately.  Very nice indeed, but remember, you may be responsible for processing refunds if the merchant’s site states that they offer a guarantee.

What to Look for When Choosing an Affiliate Product

We’re not going to get into the specifics such as the importance of gravity and such at Clickbank, but we will start with the simple consideration of the merchant’s web pages.  Does the merchant’s sales page appear pleasant and professional?  Does the headline catch your attention? Does the copywriting entice or stir emotions within you to want to buy?  If not, your visitors will probably not be drawn to buy the product either. If the sales page isn’t something that catches the eye, it’s often better to skip out on it entirely.

A few other things to consider is the product itself.  Is it high quality?  You don’t want a lot of refunds and you don’t want to lose the trust of  your subscribers and visitors for future sales.  One other thing that I consider is if the merchant’s site is including Google ads or promoting other affiliate programs directly on their website.  I hate sending visitors to a merchant’s site so that they can make money from my visitors which excludes any profits from my end.  A good affiliate program will care about their affiliates and will usually provide some marketing materials for them.

All in all, choosing what to promote is simply determining if people are spending adequate money in that particular niche.  Your main efforts should be in determining how to market and promote your affiliate product.  Above all, realize if you don’t market properly or target the right audience, the best sales pages in the world won’t bring in the affiliate sales you desire.
