Avoid Blogging Blunders with These 6 Etiquette Tips
Here are some basic blogging do’s and don’ts (with your blog setup and etiquette)
1. Don’t set up a blog that people can’t respond to – this defeats the entire purpose of blogging. It shuts the door to all interactive communication on your blog.
2. DON’T deselect the option “Allow my blog to appear in search engines.” If you deselect this, your blog may rarely be found. If you’re planning on promoting your blog, then you sure want to avoid turning this feature off.
3. Don’t leave bad comments! If you see where someone has responded to your page and left a comment that makes you mad or irritable, don’t respond to it in an angry spirit. This will give a negative impact to what you are trying to accomplish.
Some quick tips on blog commenting
- Check out other bloggers, follow different discussion threads that appeal to your interest.
- Leave comments on other blogs and when you do, have them come across as intelligent.
- Double check your spelling and grammar before submitting your comment.
- Do not leave a comment that simply says “thank you” or “nice page”. This is nothing more than a cheap attempt to have someone look at your page, and chances are that they won’t. The better the comment, the higher the chance of additional views to your own blog.
4. Do respond to comments on your blog in a personal manner. Responding to your blog comments (using their names or username) allows you to make a real connection with your blog visitors.
Again, take care on how you respond to negative comments. It is actually better to use a negative comment as a chance to ask the person’s opinion on what they would like to see changed. This can sometimes be a tough call and you may have to think about it.
5. Do use integrity in your own blog site(s) as well as other blogs. You will gain respect by consistently taking care on how you conduct yourself online. And, as a bonus, you will attract more visitors.
6. Do use good customer service skills. Be conscientious of what you are saying and how you say it.
Whatever your reason for creating a blog, remember your etiquette will pay off!
