How To Manage Your Online Business During the Holidays
Looking forward to the holidays, but fretting over how you will be able to manage your home business during your expected time off?
Use these tips to help you prepare for some great, relaxing time off with your family:
-
Plan Far Ahead. Set deadlines to accomplish any work that can be done in advance. Make a ‘to do list’ and place everything in order according to importance of priorities.
- Allocate Time to Accomplish Each of these Projects. If you’ve planned far enough in advance, you can set a goal to accomplish a couple of extra projects each day while you perform your ordinary tasks. This should alleviate you from being overwhelmed and exhausted by the time the holiday has arrived.
- Alert Your Customers and Subscribers in Advance. Let your customers know that they need to get orders in early because you will be out of office. Setup a deadline for all purchases requiring shipping or services that need to be done. Send out a reminder to your current customers a couple of days before your deadline. Also, let them know exactly when you will be back again so that they have confidence that you will soon be available again. Post the announcement on your website and blog. Let your subscribers of your email list know as well. Set up an autoresponder message for your email account for those who may try to contact you while you are away.
- Consider Outsourcing Work that Cannot be Done Ahead of Time. You can now find numerous “Virtual Assistants” online who are eager to be of service to online business owners. It may be a wise idea to establish a relationship with virtual assistant way ahead of time. You cannot expect to train a virtual assistant to attend to your business on a last minute basis. Virtual assistants need not cost you a fortune. If you are well able to do most of your own work, consider hiring one on a part-time basis for small tasks. This way, when you need to be on leave, you will already have someone who can take over and who is already familiar with your business.
As a final thought, if you cannot forgo your business completely during the holidays, you may want to take your lap top with you. If you’ve already warned your customers in advance, there shouldn’t be a lot of extra business activity that will need your attention. Generally, it won’t take long to check emails and take care of a few quick, minor details…which will allow you to still enjoy your holiday guilt free.
