5 Ways to Accomplish More in Your Home Business

5 Ways to Accomplish More in Your Home Business

A lack of organization can really hurt your progress with your internet marketing business. Being organized is particularly important because working solo means every minute counts and time wasted is the same as money wasted.

Here are 5 Ways that You Can Accomplish More with your Home Business:

1.  Take 5 Minutes Every Morning to Reorganize and Clean Your Desk Before You Start

A cluttered desk can cause you to easily lose things.  Much time will be wasted hunting down items that you’re needing for your business.  Furthermore, a messy desk is psychologically damaging and can hurt your performance in every facet and add to frustration in accomplishing even small tasks.

2.  Make a List Everyday

You want to plan everything you need to do for the day and then check off each task as you complete it.  As a warning, don’t overload yourself more than you can easily handle in the amount of time you have to work.

Too much on a list can be discouraging.  You’ll set yourself up for failure when you try to accomplish way more than possible.  Realize that there are going to be occasional interruptions and plan for this when deciding on how much you’re going to accomplish for the day.

3.  Create Time Blocks for Tasks

While you’re creating your to-do-list,  assign tasks to set blocks of time. For example, from 1:00 to 1:40 you might write a blog post. Assign a task with a set time and make sure that’s what you’re doing. This will help you accomplish more and stay focused.

As a side note, make sure you’re not too rigorous with your schedule.  A mentor of mine, Jimmy D. Brown, suggests working 45 minutes and then taking a 15 minute break as a set work pattern.

I use my timer at home to create such a schedule, and I’m amazed at how much I can accomplish.  I use my 15 minute breaks to start a load of laundry, dust some furniture or even get a snack if I truly need one.  The main thing is to give your mind a break and then focus really hard when you are working.

Knowing that I have only a short amount of time to work at each sitting seems to push me to work harder and it may be the perfect schedule for you as well.  Just try it out and see if it helps.

4.  Toss Out Office Supplies You Haven’t Used in Over a Year

This is a simple tip may actually sound quite drastic, but why store stuff you haven’t used and allow it to just set in your way?  To help keep your desk and workspace organized throw away (or give to charity) any supplies you haven’t used in the last year.

5.  Always Work Toward Accomplishing Goals

How do you achieve more in your business?  By setting specific goals. Without goals, you’ll find yourself roaming different directions.  Aim for set dates on business projects; set more goals toward bigger achievements for your business whether it be expanding your business or achieving other financial goals.

Just realize your progress will depend upon your set goals…and using these other tips to help you stay focused and work diligently on your business tasks at hand.

Need More Time? Grab Your Timer…Here’s Some Ideas

Need More Time?  Setting Timers Can Help You Achieve Your Business Goals

Do you find yourself wishing there were more hours in the day so you would have enough time to get everything done?  We all do.  When it comes to business, it sometimes seems that there could never be enough hours in the day.

Time management can be a stumbling block for many business owners.  Sometimes it helps to find a way to hold ourselves accountable for how much time we spend on certain things.  Timers are a great way to accomplish this.

What Should I Use a Timer For?

Timers can be used for just about anything that you feel that you may be spending too much time on.  Some examples are:

* Email- Some of us tend to get caught up in our email for entirely too long.  We click links, then find interesting links on those pages and end up surfing the web.  Or we read newsletters that could wait until later.  Setting a timer when reading our email can help us remember to cut to the important stuff and save the rest for non-business time.

* Research- The Internet is one of the best research tools anyone could ask for.  But it is also home to numerous distractions.  Setting a timer when researching can help us stay on track.

* Networking- Networking online can help you grow your business.  But it also has the potential to eat up time that could be better used getting work done.  Setting aside a certain amount of time to network and not going over it allows us to make connections without causing our work to suffer.

*Multiple Projects – If you are working on multiple projects, setting a timer for each one can help you dedicate the appropriate amount of time to them.  Projects that involve a lot of work or have approaching deadlines may need more time than smaller or lower priority ones.  You can always reset the timer if necessary and add more time.

*Taking Breaks – Taking breaks is important for your well-being.  Breaks give us time to clear our heads and tend to non-business matters.  But sometimes it’s tempting to take longer breaks when we’re working for ourselves, and that cuts into time that could be spent on business.  And sometimes we get so caught up in getting our work done that we make our breaks too short to serve their purpose.  Setting a timer can help us take breaks that are not too long or too short.

Managing time successfully is one of the most important thing a business owner can do.  Setting timers can help us avoid spending too much time on some things and not enough on others.  Give it a try.  You just might find that the timer is your new best friend.
